The paradise of Kiamba, Sarangani Province: Tuka Marine Park

"Beaches can be smooth and sandy or rough and pebbly. They can be rocky. They can be perfect."

--

Have you ever felt the need to get away from the bustling city and just be in a place with a beautiful coastline, free from disturbance, while also protecting the marine environment?

What a comforting thought.

As students and hardworking individuals, we rarely have time to relax away from our surroundings. But being in a coffee shop, mall, food park, and arcade can make you a bit fed up, right? We all know how important a quick recharge is for all of us. Because we care about our health, we went to the most tranquil and beautiful place Kiamba, Sarangani, had to offer: the Tuka Marine Park.

The community has preserved the abundant marine biodiversity of Tuka Marine Park, which is a true wonder. The marine wildlife may be explored there in vivid detail. It is sandy and smooth, yet it is also pebbly and rough. Plus, the place is surrounded by mountains and rocks.

Tuka Marine Park is the paradise of the province. Thus, the Kiamba municipal government has rigorous regulations in place for Tuka Marine Park. We must go through Kiamba's local tourism office to access this destination.

So, how can we get there?

From General Santos City, we rode a van in Bulaong Terminal bound for Kiamba for about an hour and a half. With a student discount (which we used), the fare is ₱150.00 and the non-discounted fare is ₱200.00. The van will drop us off at the Kiamba Public Market. Since there is no store on the island, before we rode a tricycle, we bought foods we could cook for our lunch. Then, we rode a tricycle, heading towards the tourism office.

At the tourism office, we registered our name and age and rented a boat to take us on the island. Both the entrance fee and the boat fee are ₱230.00. Arrive early in the morning to have more time and to be able to leave earlier because the waves are strong enough to flip a small boat (which we did! so traumatic haha), and the sea is at low tide at 4:00 p.m.

What I like about Tuka Marine Park is that the place has no signal, making it perfect for a social media detox. The scenery is so eye-catching and Instagram-worthy! We even have thousands of pictures of the place! We even saw small seashells in the sand! We spend the rest of our afternoon vlogging, taking pictures, swimming, and chilling. Sadly, it is only open for day tours.

Overall, we rate this paradise a 10/10! A must-visit place! But keep in mind when going there, you must be responsible with your own waste. Let us keep this paradise safe and protected.
